Songs Of The Week

New week, which means new music, and these are my picks for the week.

Beyoncé – Spirit

Along with the release of the official movie soundtrack for ‘The Lion King’, which will be in cinemas next week, an accompanying album ‘The Lion King: The Gift’, will be released next week too, and the first song off of it is ‘Spirit’. Beyoncé beautifully sings an anthemic song about overcoming struggles and rising up to our potential. I am intrigued to hear the rest of the album, which is curated by Beyoncé.

Ed Sheeran – No. 6 Collaborations Project (Album)

Collab 6

Ed Sheeran is back with a new album, and it’s an album made up entirely of collaborations, and see’s him working in new genre’s and exploring different sounds, which I really appreciate. You can still hear the pop sound in his songs with Justin Bieber, Khalid and Camila Cabello, but you can also hear some R&B, hip-hop and rap influences on his songs with H.E.R., Travis Scott, Young Thug and Stormzy.

Ed’s songwriting has always been exceptional, this experimental and collaborative album is no different. His lyrics are catchy and honest, telling stories of love, fame and life. I think my utmost favourite on the album would be ‘Best Part Of Me’ with Yebba, it’s really beautiful and reminds me of the first time I heard Ed and why I’m such a fan.

Sabrina Carpenter – I’m Fakin’

This is the latest song from Sabrina’s upcoming album ‘Singular Act II’ – the sassy bop continues here streak of great pop songs. ‘I’m Fakin” is about how indecisive we can be with people and relationships, and how we say one thing but mean another – something I think we can all relate to. Sabrina is a force to be reckoned with and I’m quite excited to hear the full album, coming out next week.

Of Monsters and Men – Wild Roses

This is Of Monsters and Men’s second single off their upcoming album ‘Fever Dream’, which will be out on 26 July. I have always loved the groups picturesque storytelling with their lyrics, and ‘Wild Roses’ is no different. The upbeat song with soaring chorus has imagery and feelings of love, loss and self-discovery.
