Songs Of The Week

New week, new music, and this week we have some really great ones – these are just a few of my favourites.

⁃ Sabrina Carpenter – In My Bed

singular act 2

This is the latest single from Sabrina’s ‘Singular Act 2’ out July 19th, and all her previous singles have been fantastic, so I am super excited for it. ‘In My Bed’ is a groovy electro-pop song about the struggle we all face trying to get over certain feelings and emotions. It’ll have you bopping your head and singing along to the catchy chorus, while contemplating your feels. Sabrina sounds incredible on this song, and the 17352 harmonies in the bridge gave me literal goosebumps!

⁃ Dan + Shay – Speechless (feat. Tori Kelly)

When I heard this performed at the Billboard Music Awards this year, I was mesmerized. A beautiful and honest love song that perfectly sums up how we feel when we’re with the person we’re in-love with. The original recording of the song is just Dan + Shay, so having Tori feature on the song has added a female perspective, which makes it even more universally relatable, as well as more harmonies (which sound magical, obviously). Listen here.

⁃ Vincint – Say

I am obsessed with Vincint, his voice is amazing and he makes such great pop songs – ‘Say’ is the perfect example of this. The production and his vocals are giving me Whitney Houston ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ vibes – it is a catchy bop and infectiously fun. It is about being brave enough to just love and to live your very best life – listen here. Happy Pride!

⁃ Kevin McHale – James Dean

Before you read this and listen to ‘James Dean’, make sure you listen to Kevin’s first single ‘Help Me Now’ – it is fantastic! Okay, back to the latest single – a vibey, piano and trap infused song about being really into someone and not getting enough of all their good (and bad) traits. Kevin has called this song his favourite on his upcoming EP, ‘Boy’ – the production, lyrics and vocals on both singles have been SO good, and I am really looking forward to this EP.

⁃ Jonas Brothers – Happiness Begins (Album)

When I heard that the Jo’Bro’s were returning, my current 23 year old self was taken back to being 12 and singing every song from their albums and watching Camp Rock 17492 times. Their singles ‘Sucker’ and ‘Cool’ have been the best comeback singles and this album just continues on that wave of great and enjoyable music.

‘Happiness Begins’ explore all sorts of genres, including pop, rock, and even reggae – which I think is pretty cool. The brothers were involved in writing all the songs on the album, with themes of love, happiness, and just having a good time all being the focus for these personal songs. Vocally, they have never sounded better – marvelous singing and harmonies are at the forefront for this album. Favourites on the album, ‘I Believe’, ‘Love Her’, ‘Sucker’, ‘Strangers’, ‘Comeback’ and ‘Only Human’.
