Happy Friday, and I hope all the magnificent women of South Africa had a good Women's Day on Wednesday – you are all so incredibly resilient, beautiful, strong and just extraordinary, and I hope you feel that way every single day.
I spent my Wednesday at Decorex Joburg – and what an inspiring and eye-opening day it was. In the "Why You Should Go to Decorex" post, I spoke about the features and stands I was excited to see at this years exhibition – and I can honestly say that my expectations were blown away. The food stands filled Gallagher Convention Centre with a mouth-watering scent, and had exhibition goers walking around, enjoying their Maverick and Jane gourmet popcorn, delicious biltong or caramelised nuts (which I highly recommend getting because it is freaking delicious!).
Home inspiration was everywhere, with people displaying their different products and why we need them, and sharing show specials for exhibition goers. There is also a wine and chocolate pairing feature, and the art gallery is filled with beautiful works by incredibly talented artists, my favourite being Sandra Pelser. It was definitely a family outing for most, and had something for everyone to appreciate and admire.
The highlight of Decorex 2017 for me, was definitely 100% Design South Africa. The quality of the exhibition and each stand showcasing SA's talented designers was inspiring and I think showed exhibition goers that design is prominent and thriving in the country. Some stand out features include the 'Seed To Seat' feature, which had 7 designers use U.S. hardwoods in a sustainable way, leaving a light environmental footprint, 'The Light Tank' by Polycat was breathtaking (I had to watch it more than once), and the '#wearejoburg' feature, which shares products from different designers, in a beautifully put together showcase. These are just few of the exciting happenings at Decorex, which ends this Sunday, so if you haven't been, I highly recommend heading there this weekend for home ideas and specials, delicious food and to just be inspired by design.
